Fire Company to rightsize its fleet

With the right mix of fire vehicles, Cranberry can be better served with three new-generation trucks than four of its current fleet, according to Fire and Emergency Services Chief Dave Gallagher. At its December 6 meeting, Cranberry’s Board of Supervisors approved the fire company’s decision to optimize its fleet by trading in two pumpers and two aerial towers for two new engines and one new ladder truck. All three of the new trucks will be built by Pierce Manufacturing, standardizing the fleet in a way it does not currently enjoy. Trade-ins and delivery of Cranberry’s new engines are staggered to take place over the coming year and into 2020. After trade-ins, the replacement price comes to $1.3 million – about a million less than it would without the trade-ins.
