Water meter replacement now complete

The 18-month effort to replace Cranberry’s water meters with remote-reading digital units is now complete.  The systemwide upgrade, which provides more accuracy and detail without requiring intrusive meter readings, was completed last month, Public Works Director Jason Dailey told the Township’s Board of Supervisors on June 28.  Altogether, 7,000 residential meters were replaced by the contractor, Newman Plumbing, while approximately 1,000 newer meter units already in place were outfitted with transmitters to relay usage information to the Township billing office.  Another 800 meters serving commercial buildings were replaced by Township employees.  Software that will enable customers to track their own water use online is expected to become available by the end of this year.
